Living Eyes - part 2

August 15, 2009

In this tutorial I’m going to show you the magical power of eyelids to change a character’s emotion. In the interest of simplicity I’ll avoid being needlessly verbose and simply present examples.

Remember this little guy?

He’s happy now. But we can give him a more specific kind of happiness by lowering his eyelids.

Well. Look at that.

By adding eyelids his emotion has changed from simply happiness into satisfaction.

Now I’m going to mix things up by moving his eyebrows so he looks like he’s worried about something. And next to it the same drawing with eyelids.

Concerned becomes coy.

Don’t let this little amphibian fool you. Inside that cute exterior is a diabolical mastermind. But how would we know?

Giving him a frown only makes him mean.
His evil nature CAN be revealed, though. With the addition of eyelids he becomes eeevviiill.

Isn’t this fun?

Let’s turn his smile upside down and see what happens.

Ulcerating worry becomes weariness.

He’s not a happy frog anymore. Is he?

Final example;

A frown makes him look really annoyed. When eyelids are added he becomes acrimonious.
